cultural |ˈkəl ch ərəl| |ˈkəltʃ(ə)rəl| |ˈkʌltʃ(ə)r(ə)l| adjective of or relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society : the cultural diversity of the world's peoples.• of or relating to the arts and to intellectual achievements : a culturalfestival.
enigma |iˈnigmə|noun ( pl. -mas or -mata |-mətə|)a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand.• a riddle or paradox.
This might be a bold claim: calling myself a cultural enigma. I am sure someone could easily argue that this isn't the case. But, shallow though it may ultimately be, I just like the name. Maybe at a later time I will explain my less shallow thoughts in regards to referring to myself this way. They inevitably are relative to my own culture and concepts of culture. Anyway, I digress. My initial impetus for actually starting this blogging venture is the fact that on the 1st of September, I arrived in a foreign city. The Eternal City to be exact: Rome, Italy. Living in foreign lands seems to necessitate blogging in some way, so that there is a central location for everyone who wants to know about the things of your now distant life have a means to do so. So, here I go!
I can't make promises for what this will look like. I just want it to be a place where you can catch a glimpse of my thoughts, musings, and what I have come to call my "Roman Adventure". So feel free to follow along if you like. I'm sure some interest things will sneak in occasionally...

ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen the movie "A Roman Holiday"? With Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn? Your Roman Adventure could be like their holiday. Roman Adventure would be a great name too.Good to be hearing all your musings.
