I have never really spent time with Dominicans. St. Thomas seemed to me an insurmountable prolific genius who wrote more in one day than I can even read, much less comprehend. But one thing I will take away from this year is a sweet love for both of them.
I could not have known what would come my way this year. I'm not sure if the Angelicum had any idea what was coming when they got ME either.
Two things to share:
1) In reviewing my notes, I came across this:
Aquinas really asked: "Does God exist?" But, sometimes, if you ask the really important questions... radical questions, you can be assailed by doubt. So pray, ask the Lord to strengthen your faith. Take a walk. Buy a pizza.
I love it. Total gem from the esteemed Fr. Wilder after 40 years of teaching. pray. walk. pizza. brilliant.
2) In my exam with the Angelicum's Rector yesterday:
[I sit down]
Father: You. Are. Evil.
Me: NO. I'm not!
F: Whyyyyy?
Me: I exist. Therefore, I am GOOD.
[all of this, of course, spoken in a very Elizabeth manner. Really, they probably should have kicked me out by now.]
Final month in Rome. Filled with exams. A lot of bittersweetness in my mind... thoughts of leaving thoughts of staying. Things to miss. Things to leave behind. Coming home. Yet, somehow leaving home.
Everything is grace. Christ is all in all. I love him.
